Alumni, Friends and Students:

Greetings! The fall started with a great deal of excitement for this academic year 2008-2009, and already we are anticipating spring 2009.

Our students were off to a great start with a Career Expo greeting them as they began the fall semester. Many of our students received offers for both internships and permanent positions. There is no doubt that the quality of education our students receive at NMSU and their strong work ethic make them highly sought after by many Fortune 500 companies.

It was also a great year for fundraising. We received over $1 million in gifts toward the establishment of The Pete V. Domenici Institute. We have only just started our fundraising on that project and hope to get to the $15 million mark in a matter of years.

This year, we hope to raise at least $1 million from our Accounting alumni and friends toward the establishment of a chair in Accounting. Additionally, we are raising money for scholarships, programs and always for annual operating support. Although we understand that adverse financial times may affect our projects, they will not deter us from accomplishing our goals. Our alumni and friends have always come through even in the most difficult of times.

The Business Advisory Council members in the Phoenix area put together the first-ever Alumni Business Networking event. We had over 70 individuals attend. Not too bad for a first try. It is the hope of the Business Advisory Council to host such events throughout the country, so be on the lookout for an alumni networking function coming to a town near you.

Homecoming was especially fun. Our Student Ambassadors showed their true Aggie spirit and put together the first inter-student group College of Business float. Most of the organizations at the College came together and brainstormed, designed and built the “Rockin’ Aggie” float.

As 2009 approaches we look forward to the many opportunities the year will bring; it is our hope that you will be engaged in the College of Business. You are the reason for our success.

Kind Regards,

Sylvia Acosta
