Accounting & Information Systems Department
BBA: Information Systems Major
Business information systems are essential parts of modern business organizations and provide timely, reliable financial, inventory, and production data that managers need to make informed decisions. This major provides you with an understanding of the functional areas of business, knowledge of the technical aspects of information systems, and the analytical skills to design, develop, implement and manage computerized business information systems. This major produces graduates who can contribute immediately to an organization’s information technology (IT) function.
Bachelor of Accountancy
Often called “the language of business,” accounting is a vital, dynamic field. This major helps you prepare for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exams. Successful accountants have a solid business and accounting knowledge base as well as substantial analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. Our majors are recruited extensively by employers in public accounting practice and in corporate, governmental and nonprofit organizations.
The Bachelor of Accountancy degree will prepare you for excellent opportunities in public accounting practice, and in business, government and nonprofit organizations. You may also advance your education through the Master of Accountancy or the MBA degree.
Accountancy assurance of learning, learning goals and other documentation are provided at the Assurance of Learning Resources section of our college website.

I work for an awesome company, rated highest in customer service online and on the phones by BusinessWeek for the third year in a row. It’s a JAVA shop and as an entry-level developer I get to use the skills I sharpened tutoring other IS students. It’s really cool; not many recent grads can say they use what they learned in school on their first job. Shondra Freeman, Class of 2007
After passing the CPA Exam on the first try and landing my Big 4 Accounting dream job, I don’t think I have ever been so grateful to have worked so hard as I did in the BAcc and MAcc Programs. The Accounting Faculty at NMSU are exceptionally unique in the way they each foster not only our academic development, but our professional and personal development as well. Given the chance to go back and do it again, I’d pick NMSU Accounting every single time. Steph Snodgrass, Class of 2009, 2010.
I work for ShineWing Certified Public Accountants, one of the biggest accounting firms in China. It is a wonderful experience to practice what I have learnt from school in real auditing field. The undergraduate accounting program not only taught me technical knowledge, but more importantly, the integrated learning experience helped me draw a clear career path. Mastering both Mandarin and English and understanding US GAAP enable me to learn accounting principles of other countries with fast speed. ShineWing has been expanding globally and I am excited to get involved. Jiayi Zhu, Class of 2010
