Project Objective

The ERP [1] integration project will develop and implement curricula in the College of Business that bring ERP concepts and SAP [2] software into the classroom to give students in all the business disciplines hands-on exposure to how enterprise-wide information systems support the planning and management of business processes.

Project Overview

This five-year project will integrate ERP into at least five business courses. During the first year the SAP University Alliance membership will be activated, three courses will be selected for ERP software integration, teachers will attend training and begin revising coursework to integrate ERP using SAP. During the second year at least one of the three selected courses will begin implementing ERP into the coursework and teachers of selected courses will provide syllabi and course objectives that include components of the ERP software that support course learning objectives. In the third year, the three courses selected in the first year will have ERP concepts and software integrated into the courses. Two courses in addition to the original three will be selected for ERP integration by the start of the fourth year. Throughout the process teachers will work with an ERP Industry Advisory Board as curricula is developed. There will be an annual executive report of progress accomplished and assessment results.

Project Assessment

The success of the project will be assessed through an annual survey of the teachers who integrate ERP into their courses, a survey of students who took these courses and, after the fourth year, a survey of employers.

[1] ERP is a generic industry term for a full suite of software to support business functions, including: customer relationship management, financial and managerial accounting, production planning, logistics, performance analysis tools, and human resource management. In the past few years the term “enterprise systems” (ES) is often being used instead of ERP.

[2] SAP (System Application Products) is a software company that develops and sells all the components of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, as well as add-on applications, such as data mining and supply chain management. SAP is a commercial ERP product suite.
