Distance ed courses are taught by qualified, full-time NMSU faculty who provide instruction by non-traditional means such as through the Internet.
NMSU is one of 40 schools throughout the world designated as a WebCT (Web Course Tools) institute.
Is Distance Education right for me?
You need to have substantially completed the prerequisite coursework (freshman and sophomore years).
You need to be highly motivated to succeed in this non-traditional educational environment.
If your career requires you to move too often to complete your degree; you want to complete your degree, but your schedule conflicts with classroom attendance; or you’re place-bound, you might want to consider distance education.
What should I expect?
Faculty use a combination of distance ed technologies, including web-based interactive tools such as Discussion Boards, Email, Chat, and Quiz, as well as customized interfaces.
What will my instructor expect from me?
You need daily access to the Internet so you can communicate frequently with your instructor and other team/class members.
Many distance ed courses are time intensive and require extensive writing.
While the distance ed program is a great way to learn outside the confines of a university setting, it is not equivalent to a “write-away” degree.
What do I need?
Daily access to the Internet.
Minimum computer requirements: Windows 98 Microsoft.
PC or Mac: Internet Explorer, Netscape or AOL.
Experience with the Internet and email-based communication.
