BBA General Business: Tribal Management Option

Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute

SIPI is a National Indian Community College and Land Grant Institution located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Accredited by the North Central Association, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, SIPI provides a responsive learning environment within which American Indian and Alaskan Native tribal members develop skills that will be needed by Tribal Nations to build strong, cohesive communities.

NMSU’s Digital Pathways program is designed to bring higher education opportunities to the American Indian population, especially in fields in which the tribes have a high need. The Digital Pathways Team serves American Indian distance education students throughout the state of New Mexico.

Tribal Management Program

SIPI and New Mexico State University (NMSU) created the Tribal Management program jointly. The purpose of the program is to prepare students to enter positions of managerial responsibility in tribal enterprises.

Students will take their first 2 years of college course work at SIPI in Albuquerque, NM. Courses include general education requirements as well as introductory business courses. Most importantly, students will take courses in tribal management, tribal leadership, tribal law, and tribal resources and economic development.

Upon completing these courses students will be able to transfer the credits earned at SIPI to NMSU where they will complete a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. Their major will be General Business with an option in tribal management. The degree may be completed on the NMSU Las Cruces campus or through distance education at SIPI.

All students are required to complete a minimum of 128 degree credits including at least 54 credits of upper-division courses (numbered 300 or above).
