Financial Assistance

Overview

At New Mexico State University there are primarily three different types of financial aid available to MBA students:

All applications need to be mailed to the MBA office by the appropriate deadline.

Graduate Assistantships

Application Deadlines

  • Fall semester: April 15
  • Spring semester: October 15

The MBA Program has a relatively small number of graduate assistantships. While some assistantships require special skills or backgrounds, most are open to any full-time MBA student who meets the requirements.

Application Procedures

A graduate assistantship application form, three letters of recommendation, and a resumé are required. Application and recommendation forms are available in the MBA Program Office, Guthrie Hall Room 114.

Applicants are responsible for insuring that their letters of recommendation are received by the MBA Program prior to the deadline.

Eligibility

  • Admission to the MBA program as a “REGULAR” graduate student.
  • Undergraduate or graduate GPA of 3.00 or higher.
  • International students must be declared eligible through the International Teaching Assistant screening process. (Screenings are held in April for Fall and December for Spring).

Conditions

Graduate assistants must:

  • Be enrolled in at least 9 graded credits of graduate level course work per semester.
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.00 or higher.

Graduate assistants work 10 or 20 hours per week and are employed on the same calendar period as the faculty; i.e.,

  • Fall: August – December
  • Spring: January – May

Tuition

Full-time or part-time graduate assistants are allowed to enroll as New Mexico residents during the first year of their assistantships. However, if you have not taken the steps necessary to become New Mexico residents by the beginning of their second year, you may be required to pay non-resident/out-of-state tuition.

Summer Fellowships

Application Deadline: March 1

The College of Business offers a number of summer fellowships.

The fellowships are highly competitive. Fellowship stipends vary in amount, generally between $600 to $700, and require that the recipient work between 60 to 70 hours during the summer session for which the fellowship is awarded. The recipient must also be enrolled in at least 3 graded credits during that summer session.

Only one application form is required for any of the scholarships being offered. Instructions are on the form.
