2. Admissions: Master of Accountancy
Date of last process review/modification: CEC, July 2, 2008
General Description
This process is to insure that students admitted into the Master of Accountancy program are fully qualified and that all applicants are notified of the department’s decision in a timely fashion.
Detailed Description
Student applications are submitted to the Graduate School.
If minimum Graduate School standards are met (see “Admission” section of a current NMSU Graduate Catalog), the Graduate School submits an Admissions Referral Form to the department. This form is given to the Master of Accountancy program director for review.
The Master of Accountancy director makes a recommendation for admission based upon a review of their undergraduate record and other indicators of success in graduate work (Graduate Management Admissions test scores, interviews, work experience, and letters of reference).
With the recommendation, the director lists any deficiencies, such as business foundation coursework and accounting prerequisites, which must be overcome after admission to the program.
The director’s provisional admission recommendations include instructions for how to change that status.
If the department head agrees with the director’s recommendation, it is signed and sent to the Graduate School.
If there is disagreement, the department head and director meet to discuss the admission decision before the department head makes a final decision.
Individual responsible for monitoring process: Department Head, Accounting/IS
