Detailed Description
Placement for Ph.D. students is a process which builds over the four years of program involvement.
Students are encouraged to actively develop a research record with peer-reviewed publications, and build a good record of teaching interests and evaluations. The student assumes primary responsibility for the process.
The student’s major advisor is also an important contributor, serving as a mentor and counseling the student regarding job opportunities and expectations.
Most of the placement activity will be concentrated during the student’s last two years at NMSU.
After students pass comprehensive exams and finalize a dissertation proposal, they are encouraged to register with the American Marketing Association and attend its August Educators’ Conference where major interviewing takes place for marketing faculty positions. Other conference placement services may also be used.
A major marketing list service – ELMAR – is invaluable in learning about job openings and application requirements. Students are encouraged to subscribe to ELMAR early in their program of study.
