What is a Minor?

Overview

An academic minor is a secondary field of study or specialization that you can “declare” while pursuing your degree.

A minor requires fewer courses than a major.

Some students prepare for their intended career with their major while pursuing personal interests with a minor. Other students pursue their major and declare a minor to specialize in a subject and make themselves more attractive to employers.

If you’re getting a degree in another field, you might consider getting a minor in a business field.

For example:

A minor can add versatility to your knowledge, skills and abilities.

You’ll show potential employers that you are not only trained in the field of your major, but you’ve also added some business savvy.

You’ll give yourself a double career track that you can travel on the rest of your life.
