Directed recruitment of both faculty and students is essential. Recruitment and retention of excellent faculty that are actively engaged in the learning process of the students will ensure that students benefit through an educational experience that is rich in research, attention, and personal experience.

Continued focus on recruitment of the best and the brightest students will ensure that “all boats rise” within the college.

To achieve the vision of being a premier college, there must be a convergence of quality teachers with quality learners.

Directed Learning

Dr. David Boje: Economic impact of the arts

U.S. corporations are expecting Universities to not only provide the best education possible but to add the important dimension of directed learning experiences.

We are committed, through directed learning experiences gained in Arrowhead Center projects and through several capstone classes, to provide this much-needed dose of reality.

Internships, co-ops and Business Advisory Council mentorship of students give them the opportunity to put theory into practice through the development of business plans, project based learning and integrated problem-solving approaches much like those that they would encounter in the business world.

New dynamic theories of the economy suggest that the prevalence of small firms provide a constant tide of new ideas and experimentation vital to the health of the economy.

As companies downsize, it is imperative that NMSU answer the call to provide alternatives to encourage economic growth.

The Arrowhead Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Development is focused on incorporating an entrepreneurship component to the curriculum of every business school student.

Business Creation

The commercialization of intellectual property has become a major trend for most business schools throughout the country.

In March of 2004, the Board of Regents approved the development of The Arrowhead Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Development to assist in the development of business plans for patents developed by scientists and engineers from NMSU, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia Corporation (National Laboratories), and by the public.

The Arrowhead center is actively engaged in developing business plans and garnering support from venture capitalist to generate wealth and promote economic growth in New Mexico.

Research

Research continues to be an important component of the educational experience. The College must expand its research and creative activity base if it is to serve the Land Grant mission of extending knowledge into economic development and improvements to quality of life.

Information is key in ensuring the continued success of our businesses and to accelerating economic growth in New Mexico and throughout the country.

Dr. Peter Dorfman, a member of the GLOBE research project’s Board of Directors, has been an invited speaker around the world to discuss GLOBE’s research results. The Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness research program is a multiphase, multimethod project examining the interrelationships between societal culture, organizational culture, and organizational leadership. It began in 1994 with a team of 170 scholars investigating the responses to questionnaires and interviews of over 17,000 managers from 951 organizations in 62 societies.

Dr. Collin Payne’s research on obesity, consumer behavior and America’s eating habits received national attention and was featured on “Good Morning America,” the “Today Show,” and the “Tim Conway Jr. Show” in Los Angeles. Working with Cornell University Researcher Brian Wansink, Payne’s findings were recently published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, a monthly medical journal published by the American Medical Association.
