Insurance and Financial Services Center

Overview

Begun by Dr. Barry Smith, Department of Finance, with generous donations from the New Mexico insurance industry, the Insurance and Financial Services Center (IFSC) provides wide-ranging opportunities for students, faculty and the insurance industry.

The endowed chair funded by the Mountain States Insurance Group allows the College of Business to secure premier insurance faculty with outstanding records in both academia and industry.

Students enrolled in the Insurance Studies Program (a minor field of study available to students in any major) can apply for internships that provide them with valuable, real-world experience as well as academic credit. See the student and employer information about internships/co-ops.

Scholarships are also available, and are offered in addition to any other financial aid for which a student may be eligible.

Investing

Your investment in the Insurance and Financial Services Center can be applied in two ways: in support of the Center and/or directly into a scholarship fund. In the 2007-2008 academic year, the Center provided $23,000 in scholarships to 20 insurance students.

The majority of Insurance Studies Program  students work while attending college; these scholarships are extremely helpful to them. Scholarships are also one of our best recruiting tools to interest students in considering the insurance industry as a career choice.
