The Documents You Need

College of Business

The Checklist

Incoming students receive the College of Business Checklist (formerly called the PBA Checklist). You keep a copy and we keep a copy in our files in the Advising Center.

During the time you are taking the classes listed in the lower-division checklist, you will be advised through the Advising Center.

When you come to see us, your checklist is updated each semester to indicate the courses that have been completed. Be sure you update your copy, too.

The Degree Plan

During the semester you complete all of the courses listed in your lower-division Checklist, come by the Advising Center for your Degree Plan. To get your degree plan, you must attend an information session that will explain the plan and review the graduation requirements.

NOTE! You should not deviate from the checklist or your degree plan without prior approval of the Associate Dean of the College, Dean Brook.

Once you have your degree plan, you will be advised by a faculty member in the department of your major; for example, if you’re a marketing major, you will be advised by a Marketing Department faculty member.

Degree plans should be updated every semester to reflect the work that you have completed.

We have business degree plans, degree requirement information, and sample schedules in the Advising Center. (Sample schedules indicate the best way to sequence your courses.)

NMSU

The Catalog

You should have a copy of the NMSU catalog and be familiar with the rules and regulations listed in the General Information section at the front of the catalog. This section contains important information onĀ  changes in registration, incomplete grades, basic skills, repeating courses, academic probation and suspension, the adjusted credit option and academic misconduct.

You should also be familiar with the material describing specific degree requirements in the College of Business.

Finally, the last section of the catalog lists descriptions of all the courses NMSU offers. An important part of the course description is a listing of any prerequisites that must be completed prior to enrolling in the course, or restrictions specific to a major.

The Schedule of Classes (also known as Course Schedules)

Finally, you should have a copy of the Schedule of Classes for the semester. The schedule contains important dates as well as information about billing and the final exam schedule for the semester.
