Transfer Students

College of Business Information

Advisors are available on a walk-in basis and by appointment throughout the year. Advising is not mandatory but strongly encouraged. Class registration is available via the Internet for those students in compliance with the college and university rules and regulations.

Transfer students from other colleges or universities may be accepted for undergraduate studies if they have at least a C (2.0) cumulative grade average and are eligible to return to the college or university last attended. Transferring students who would not have met admission requirements as a first-time freshman must have completed at least 30 graded credits to be considered for admission.

  • Transfer students must complete at least 50% or 33 credits of business credit hours at NMSU and must complete at least 30 of their last 36 credits at NMSU.
  • All students are required to complete at least 48 credits of upper division courses (numbered 300 or higher).

Transfer credit may be earned from post-secondary institutions that are regionally accredited or are candidates for regional accreditation. Transfer students will receive full credit for course work completed with a grade of C or better, provided the classes are similar or equivalent to courses offered at NMSU.

Transfer credit may be granted for courses taken at other institutions for which a grade of D was received. However, NMSU’s College of Business does not accept the transfer of courses with D grades for the following courses:

  • Freshman Composition
  • Business or Technical Writing
  • Algebra
  • Intermediate Algebra
  • Public Speaking
  • Interpersonal Communication.

Also, the Economics department will accept only courses graded C or better in the following courses:

  • Macro and Micro Economics
  • Statistics
  • Calculus

NMSU will not accept transfer credit for 4-credit basic skills courses (such as English 111G and CCDM 114) when the incoming course carries less than 3 credit hours.

Grades earned in courses taken at other institutions are not included in the calculation of the NMSU grade point average, except for grades earned by approved National Student Exchange programs.

A copy of your official evaluation of transfer credits will be mailed to you as soon as it has been completed. You should contact the College of Business Advising Center for advising and registration information.
