Accounting and Information Systems

Accounting
The Bachelor of Accountancy degree is available to students to prepare them for excellent opportunities that exist in public accounting practice and in business, government, and nonprofit organizations. Graduates of the NMSU Accounting program are now partners in national accounting firms and CEOs and CFOs of corporations across the United States. Accounting employers come from all over the nation to recruit at NMSU, and while most of our graduates end up taking jobs in or near New Mexico, recent graduates have taken jobs with national accounting firms in locations such as Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. For more information about employers, click on the "Employers of Our Graduates" link on the left side of this page. In addition to the Bachelor of Accountancy degree, accounting students may also advance their education either through the Master of Accountancy or the Master of Business Administration degree.
Information Systems
The information systems program prepares students for a variety of management and technical positions associated with the analysis, design, and implementation of computerized business information systems. Potential employers include information system service organizations, public accounting/consulting firms, manufacturing and merchandising business, banks, government and many others. Students may continue their education through the Master of Business Administration degree.
The Information Systems program is a hands on, small class experience for students. It begins with a three semester programming sequence which leads to systems analysis and design study, database management, and electives such as networking, simulation, and ecommerce security. The effectiveness of this program of study is proven by the fact that teams of NMSU information systems students consistently place in the top four in collegiate information systems competitions. The NMSU program of study produces graduates who can immediately contribute to an organization's IT function.
