Tuesday, January 23, 2001 - the Fair Labor Association approved seven
companies for participation in FLA's monitoring program. They are adidas-Salomon,
Gear for Sports, Levi Strauss and Company, Liz Claiborne, Patagonia, Nike,
Reebok (footwear only). Together these companies contract with more than 2000
factories in 75 countries and represent over $23 billion in apparel and
footwear sales. Two companies, Phillips Van Huesen and Eddie Bauer, are in the
final step of the application process, and others are at more preliminary
stages. Additional monitoring plan approvals are anticipated in the coming
weeks.
