The question is,
what does leadership mean in the postmodern world. This is a world
of WTO protest, splintered and fragmented movements seeking a way
out of global capitalism.
EXISTENTIAL
Existentialists
such as Jean-Paul Sartre view leadership as a special type of
historical and social situation. You will need to read carefully.
SPECTACLE
Leadership is
about spectacle, a form of Theatrics that Guy Debord wrote about.
We watch media spectacles and CEOs use media in spectacle fashion.
FESTIVAL
Festival is used
by Spectacle leaders to attract consumers, workers, and investors.
Still with the Slow Food and Convivia movements there is some
interest in finding festive spaces that have not been corrupted by
spectacle.
CARNIVAL
Carnival is not
the Circus. It is the Carnival that Bakhtin and Kristeva wrote
about. It is a time to poke fun at leaders, to exercise our right
to sattire and parody. Leaders can learn a lot from watching
carnivals. Certainly the WTO protest was carnival.

THEATRICS
This way leads

Shakespeare
Shakespeare had
much to say about leadership. The Merchant of Venice for example
is the script of the Business College education.
ABSURD
Theater of the
Absurd presents a very different view of leaership. Eugene
Ionesco, for example, presents a play titled The Leader. Are
leaders headless?
OPPRESSED
Theater of the
Oppressed was made famous by Augusto Boal. People out of power
learn to lead ins some intriguing theatrics.
POSTMODERN
What is
postmodern Theatrics? Here we look at the TAMARA Theatrics,
fragmenting and wandering audiences chasing actors from stage to
stage. Then there is global theatrics, a postmodern performance
you are all part of...

It is not always
possible to get back into the BOX once you have been wandering in

WHAT
IS TAMARA?
A play in which
people chase the actors from room to room and in the process
become more than spectators. You become an actor or spect-actor.
