How to design your student web page

1. Set up your student web account - for NMSU follow these guidelines.  You will need TCIP program (do find search on your computer, it is usually there somewhere). This step gets you a web folder called public_html set up on your count and set it so the outside browser world can find you.

2. If you are on campus use FrontPage.  If you do not have FrontPage, download 1st Page for FREE. Load up WORD or WORDPERFECT and copy the contents of your assignment pages into a Front or 1st page blank file.  Use Ctrl A to highlight your text, then Ctrl C to copy it, and finally moving to your destination, use Ctrl V to move it into place.   Call your main page by the label "index.htm" so it will load automatically when people do to your web pages, such as the examples above.

3. Time to load up your passages.  This is done with FTP32 another program hiding on your computer. Down load at
http://rain.prohosting.com/4guitars/download/ws_ftple.exe Use find command (push START to find FIND) then find FTP32.  Fire it up.  Use connect and these setting. Press NEW. Then say VERDI for profile name, host address is  web.nmsu.edu instead of  rhea.nmsu.edu (or sometimes pop.nmsu.edu works, but not recently). Host is UNIX (Standard). Now enter your USER ID: it is your NMSU email prefix (not whole thing) such as xsmith. Finally enter your password. Call 646-1840 if you forgot it.

4. Now that you are in FTP32, you do a chdir on the left screen and put in c:/ or a:/ and find your files.  Then click on the "public_html" folder on the right screen and open it.  This is where you move the files on the left and send them to the right side. Jamie Hoskins found a FREE version of FTP32 by using a search engine.

5. Open up your NETSCAPE browser, then enter http://web.nmsu.edu/~YOUR_ID. You will be able to see your index.html file if all worked as planned.  Play with it and see what works or does not work.

6. To update and change, open up NETSCAPE, FRONT or 1st Page, your WORD file, and FTP32 all at once if you have the memory.  This way you can change a word file, copy to FRONT or 1st Page, load it with FTP32, and check it with NETSCAPE.
