3. You might look at my top 10 words list and see if they use any of these.
4. The purpose of the assignment is to give you a feel for the point of view (see managerialism) that is taken (i.e. in contrast to S&F or ROT, etc.).
5. Try a little deconstruction (for example, where did they NOT tell the Other Side of the Story? How can they resituate to be more multi-perspective?)

How does Boje emplot the history of capitalism in Chapter 3: Spectacle View Two - Corporate Imperialism. ?  In what ways does he hold out the promise of better factory experiments in the Nike proposal? How would you emplot it? (This could involve a resituation of Marx/Boje emplotments).

Please Read Marx (Ch 10)  & Smith (Anything from The Wealth of Nations and the Moral Sentiments) on the WWW and come prepared to participate and talk about Spectators and Ethics and their role in influencing global capitalism.

Here is a taxonomy of ways writers "emplot' stories.  There are four basic types of emplotment ( Source: N. Frye in "Anatomy of Criticism"):

1. Romance - Romance is a drama of self-identification symbolized by a heroine's victory over the world of experience.  The hero is redeemed and/or liberated.

2. Satire (irony) - Satire/irony is the opposite of Romance.  It is a drama of apprehension symbolized by the heroine's captivity in the world.  He/she is never able to overcome the darkness, get out of the abyss.

3. Comedy - In Comedy, there is hope for the heroes in a temporary triumph over darkness.  Reconciliations are symbolized by a festive occasion and  harmony can be achieved between conflicting parties.

4. Tragedy. In Tragedy, the hero is defeated by the experiences of the world, yet, hope exists for those left behind by their understanding of the limits of overcoming the abyss. Liberation is possible.

TEAM Project Ideas

1. "I think that there are companies operating and doing M/OB in the same countries as Nike (and others) but with a more progressive approach. Can you help me find them?" See Nike global project. A team could pick a country in the Globe project (e.g. Mexico or India, etc.) then identify as many Nike locations of factories as possible. Next, link up to students and student groups on campus with people from that country. See if there are people they know you could contact to discuss working conditions. Finally, as a comparison, identify a comparable company doing a better job. For example BATA shoe company (a Canadian firm) reportedly pays three times what Nike pays in its Indonesia factories.  The report could use SEAM categories to compare and contrast the sites you select.  This could be done either as a business or a service learning project.

2. What would be an alternative model of Managing and Organizational Behavior in a Dynamic Global Economy? Here are some that relate to SEAM and Fathers and Mothers of Management
