Sponsored by Arrowhead Center Prosper Project

The Energy and Economic Development Conference was sponsored by the NMSU Arrowhead Center PROSPER project as part of on-going energy research.  The purpose of the PROSPER project is to examine relationships between fossil fuel production, economic development and water in New Mexico.  Now that the conference is complete, presentations are available.  See the side-bar on the left.

The PROSPER project began October 1, 2008 and will continue until September 30, 2011.  High priority topics to be assessed by PROSPER include: (1) the impact of the fossil fuel industry on water resources in New Mexico; (2) the effects of changes in the fossil fuel industry on the New Mexico economy, with a special emphasis on the number and types of jobs created and on the tax revenue generated by the fossil fuel industry; (3) how increasing demand for fossil fuels worldwide impacts production of energy in New Mexico; (4) how government (federal state and local) policies and regulations impact domestic production of fossil fuels, including how increased demands for environmental protection affect the ability to produce fossil fuel energy from domestic supplies; and (5) how to use fossil fuel resources in New Mexico to foster long-term prosperity in New Mexico and the southwest.
