Working on research in ethical decision making that uses PathFinder (semantic or conceptual networks) to analyze how people view ethical issues and whether their views can be affected by ethics discussion and training.

On the Improvement of User-Developed Applications through the Use of a Systems Development Methodology (Completed January 1998)
• The focus of this research was on applying systems analysis and design techniques to end-user developed applications to address problems with accuracy errors, omission errors, and lack of documentation.
• This research consisted of an experiment conducted over the Internet. End users submitted information through forms and e-mail attachments. They received training from CBT modules they downloaded from the experiment web site.

Teaching Innovations

• Have developed a series of flash videos to supplement material in several courses, including systems analysis and design and database management systems.
• Developed and taught a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) course and have been the project leader for integrating enterprise systems software into several courses. This culminated in an enterprise systems minor for business students.

• Developed and taught a new special topics class:  Oracle database and application development software.
  
• Have used course management software, such as WebCT or Blackboard, in all my classes to enhance the delivery of course material to students and to provide more readily available feedback on scores for assignments and exams.
   
• Developed course material and taught a new class in the Business Computers Systems major: System Design, Development, Implementation (BCIS 450). This course is a project-oriented, senior-level class that enables students to integrate and apply skills from several courses. This course involves management and interpersonal skills for project planning and team work and technical skills for completing systems development life cycle.  This course also has students work on their written communication skill by writing reports on the project and documenting the software developed. In the past two semesters students in this class have had real-world experience in developing database applications for a few departments at NMSU and for some local businesses and government agencies.

 
• Hands-on experience has been integrated into the Systems Analysis and Design course (BCIS 350) by having students work in teams on a real-world project. This project is done in the latter part of the semester after students have learned technical skills in project management (PERT/CPM), data modeling (ERD), and process modeling (DFD). In past semesters BCIS 350 student teams have developed applications to
  • Manage the assignment of tutors to students for Student Services at NMSU,
• Track athlete performance for a coach at NMSU,
• Track articles, topics, and authors for a researcher at NMSU,
• Manage delinquent accounts for a local branch of the state tax and revenue department, and
• Manage inventory for a local government agency.

 
• Developed a self-assessment for students to help gauge what students know or don't know about productivity software (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.). This assessment helps in tailoring the coverage of software skills in BCIS 110 (Introduction to Computerized Information Systems).
