The New Mexico State University Spring 2010 Grad Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Barnes & Noble at NMSU Bookstore in Corbett Center.

The fair, hosted by the NMSU Alumni Association, Barnes & Noble at NMSU Bookstore and Graduate Student Services, will provide graduating students with a “one-stop-shop” for graduation needs, said Hilda Ortega, a Barnes & Noble employee.

Ortega said all the materials needed for spring graduation will be sold at the fair, with discounts and prizes. Many students go to the event, Ortega said.

Among the items available for purchase will be announcements, class rings, diploma frames and graduation portraits, according to the bookstore Web site.

“The best time to get graduation items is during the Graduation Fair,” Ortega said. “We have motivation for people to come with prizes that they will register to win.”

According to an advertisement for the event, prizes include announcements, a cap and gown, Barnes & Noble gift cards and free portraits.

Ortega said organizers already expect a high student turnout because of the convenient appeal of the event. Ortega said graduation merchandise vendors will attend and students may ask questions about the merchandise.

NMSU senior Daisy Ramirez said she will not attend the fair because she already has her cap and gown from when she received her associate’s degree.

“I guess it is a way to save money,” Ramirez said.

For students who do attend, Ortega said, there will be benefits. Ortega said the diploma frames will be 20 percent off at the graduation fair and regalia will be ten percent off. Ortega said after the fair all the prices will return to normal rates. Graduation merchandise vendors include Framing Success, Jostens and Classic Photography.
