Andres Gutierrez (’80, ’83)

Andres Gutierrez is a native of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and began his college education at the NMSU-Alamogordo branch campus. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1980 and a Master’s of Business Administration degree in 1983.

He began his career at the Physical Science Laboratory in Las Cruces where he worked in mainframe computing, and later became the Purchasing Agent for the city of Alamogordo.

In 1984 he joined Pacific Bell as a Systems Consultant with responsibility for all phases of operations support, software development, project management, and systems engineering.

He remained there for 13 years before joining Pacific Bell Internet, a start-up subsidiary, as Vice President of Product and Systems Development. He then joined the Scient Corporation, a start-up company with a focus on electronic business system innovation.

In 1999 he founded NewCo Productions, a management consulting firm for start-up companies, and currently serves as Managing Director.

He is actively involved in the Hispanic Network of Entrepreneurs, also known as Hi-Net, a non-profit organization founded last year designed to create and build a strong national network of Hispanic entrepreneurs and business executives.

The mission of the organization is to accelerate opportunities for Hispanics to start, build, manage and invest in leading technology companies. Gutierrez has established a deferred gift annuity for NMSU to provide campus-wide support for student scholarships and technology improvements.

John Papen III (’68)

John Papen III is Executive Vice President of Wells Fargo Bank in Doña Ana County, headquartered in Las Cruces. He has been with the bank in various capacities for more than forty years.

Papen is a 1968 graduate of NMSU with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, a 1973 graduate of the Colorado School of Banking at the University of Colorado, and a 1976 graduate of the National Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma. Papen was the college’s 1997 Distinguished Alumnus.

He has been actively involved in many civic and professional organizations and is a member and past president of the NMSU President’s Association, past president of the La Mesa Lions Club, and a member of the New Mexico Bankers Association.

He is past president and director of the Western States School of Banking and a director for the New Mexico Amigos.

Papen has also served many years on the Executive Board of the NMSU Aggie Sports Association and is a past president of that organization.

He is also past president of the Sertoma Club and the Las Cruces and Picacho Hills Country Clubs, and past director of the Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce.
