Jerean Camuñez Hutchinson (’80)

Jerean Camuñez Hutchinson is a native of Las Cruces and the daughter of the late G. Rudy Camuñez and Bella Camuñez.

Jerean received her Bachelor’s of Business Administration Degree from New Mexico State University in 1980, and her Master’s Degree from George Washington University in 1985.

After receiving her degree from NMSU, Jerean held several positions with various firms throughout the country including computer programmer, systems analyst, information management, marketing manager, and project leader for a major government contractor.

From 1987 to 1995, Jerean was the Vice President and Regional Manager for a marketing firm in Dallas, TX. Looking to be closer to family and yearning for home, Jerean and her husband Tom moved back to Las Cruces in 1996 and acquired the famed La Posta de Mesilla property and business.

La Posta was recognized in 2001 as the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce Business of the year and by the Doña Ana Historical Society for the successful repair and rehabilitation of a historical commercial property. Jerean was also a finalist for the 2004 New Mexico Restaurant Association Restaurateur of the Year.

Jerean is a graduate of the 2001 class of Leadership New Mexico and received the YWCA 2005 Reach award for business Women Who Make a Difference. Her professional affiliations include past president of the Old Mesilla Association; Board of Councilors for Citizens Bank; NMSU Business Advisory Council; Aggie Sports Association; NM Restaurant Association; Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance and the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce.

Her community involvement includes serving as a board member and fundraising chair for Jardin de los Niños; founding member for the Mesilla Jazz Happening; fundraising chair for Mayfield High School Football Booster Club; and current President of the Las Cruces Catholic School Board. Jerean is married to Tom Hutchinson, Captain, USNR, Retired. They have three children, Christopher, Brett and Elena.

Chris Knackstedt (’91)

Chris Knackstedt of Denver, Colorado, is a 1991 honors graduate of New Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree and a minor in Economics. He earned an MBA from UTEP in 1996 and is a Certified Public Accountant.

He currently serves as Senior Vice President of Healthcare Management for the Healthcare Division of Great-West Life and Annuity, a national employee benefits provider with expertise in self-funding and creative health care management solutions that serves more than two million members nationally.

Prior to joining Great-West, Knackstedt served as Chief Financial Officer of Centura Health/St. Anthony Health System, a not-for-profit network of five facilities that includes the States busiest Level 1 Trauma Center. He also served as a Chief Financial Officer for the Sierra Providence Health Network, a for-profit network of two acute care hospitals and other medical facilities. He began his career as an auditor with KPMG Peat Marwick.

Knackstedt was the 2001 Distinguished Alum of the NMSU College of Business, and also served the college as a member of the Alumni Advisory Council and the Business Advisory Board. He has served on numerous boards including the Board of Directors of the Rocky Mountain Primary Care Group, El Paso Chamber of Commerce, and the Seniors Resource Center.

Knackstedt has been married to Lucinda Knackstedt for the past twelve years. They met while attending NMSU and Ms. Knackstedt holds a Bachelor of Science degree and two Master’s of Art degrees from NMSU. Ms. Knackstedt sits on the President’s Associates board and together they have supported NMSU through endowment of scholarships in the College of Business as well as in the Department of Music. In their spare time, the Knackstedts enjoy spending their time in the mountains of Colorado hiking, running, and skiing.
