Arturo D. Jurado
Arturo Jurado’s road from farm laborer to international agribusiness entrepreneur has been both rewarding and difficult. Arturo’s father, Pedro, came to Fort Hancock, TX with his mother in 1920 from Mexico. His father met and married Rosa Diaz of Chamberino, NM. Rosa’s family had lived and farmed in the Mesilla Valley for several generations.
The Jurado family worked in the farming industry of Southern New Mexico. They rented land for many years until they were provided the opportunity to purchase their own land. That purchase was the beginning of Jurado, Inc., an international agribusiness with three plants located in the United States and Mexico. Jurado Inc. grew beyond processing and fermenting of cayenne pepper to include a transportation company and a rental and land development company. The Jurados continue to expand their agricultural enterprise by adhering to their father’s philosophy of working hard and working together.
Mr. Jurado is married to Maria Elena Valenzuela, an NMSU graduate and they have two children, also graduates of New Mexico State University, Rosario Garcia and Xavier Jurado. Arturo Jurado’s brother, Pete, is also a partner in Jurado, Inc. and a graduate of New Mexico State University. His sister, Guadalupe is a small business owner and artist. Together with his parents, wife, family, religious faith and hard work, Mr. Jurado was able to build a strong farming enterprise.
