Overview

The U.S. Professors of the Year program salutes the most outstanding undergraduate instructors in the country–those who excel as teachers and influence the lives and careers of their students. Sponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, it is the only national program to recognize excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. All undergraduate teachers in the United States, of any academic rank at any type of undergraduate institution, are eligible for the award. Entries are judged by top U.S. educators and other active participants in education. CASE launched the awards program in 1981. That same year, The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching began hosting the final round of judging, and in 1982, became the primary sponsor.

Editor’s note

The NMSU College of Business faculty includes three New Mexico Professor of the Year Award Recipients, more than any other College of Business in the State of New Mexico. This national award is given by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

NMSU faculty have received seven of these awards, far more than any other university in New Mexico: Eastern New Mexico University faculty have received four, with one from business; College of Santa Fe faculty have received three, with one from Business; and faculty from University of New Mexico, Clovis Community College and Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute have each received one, none from business.
