Camp Innoventure summer program still accepting middle school students

A few spots are still available for middle school students in New Mexico to participate in the 2014 Camp Innoventure program at New Mexico State University. Two weeklong sessions are planned in June at the Las Cruces campus’ Arrowhead Center and an additional session will be in Albuquerque.

“We’re excited to be bringing Camp Innoventure to Albuquerque,” said Innoventure Director Marie Borchert. “Innoventure is a statewide program and this is one way in which we continue to engage the youth of New Mexico in entrepreneurship.”

Camp Innoventure offers students in sixth through eighth grade a chance to see their creative business ideas go from concept to reality and gives them a taste of real-world competition for success. The students will brainstorm business ideas, write a mission statement, put together a business model and create a product to sell.

Camp Innoventure is modeled after Arrowhead Center’s annual Innoventure competition, which encourages students from across the state to use science, technology, engineering and math to solve business problems and create new and innovative products that may have real marketability.

The first Las Cruces session is June 2-7, and the second is June 23-28, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Students will sell the products they develop at the Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market. For more information, contact Marie Borchert at 575-646-7839 or, or register online at

Another session of the camp will be hosted at the NMSU Albuquerque Center. The Albuquerque session is June 2-7 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. each day, and students will sell the products they develop at the Albuquerque Downtown Growers’ Market on June 7.
