New Mexico State University’s College of Business awarded 75 scholarships totaling $170,795 for the 2015-2016 academic year, assisting up to 140 students to help them achieve their goal of obtaining a professional degree.
On October 23, 2015, the college hosted its annual Scholarship Luncheon at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Museum. Over 200 students, donors, faculty, and staff attended the luncheon.
The event not only provides an opportunity to acknowledge scholarship donors for their support and recognize scholarship recipients, but also allows donors to meet the students they are helping.
This year’s luncheon featured several dynamic speakers. Andy Rice (’78, ’79), senior vice president of international business at The Jordan Company, a private equity firm, spoke to students about the impact scholarships had on his career and offered advice for those entering the job market. Jerry Smith (’77), president and CEO of Laguna Development Corporation and the college’s 2015 Distinguished Alumnus honoree, also spoke of how his education at NMSU made a difference in his career path. Stephanie Sessions, a Masters of Accountancy graduate student receiving a scholarship this year, spoke about what a positive difference receiving a scholarship has made as she plans on graduating in 2016.
Also highlighted at the luncheon was NMSU’s participation in #GivingTuesday, a global day of philanthropy which takes place December 1, 2015. There is an exciting matching gift opportunity this year where every dollar donated to a current or new scholarship anywhere on campus will be matched dollar for dollar.
