03.15.12 (LAS CRUCES) — It may be an indication of an improving economy. More and more employers are taking part in job fairs, looking to add to their workforce.

Mayra Lovas continues to look for work.

“I just want to get my foot in the door,” she said.

Lovas recently graduated and is eager to find a job in her field of study.

“Would love to get into community education as far as I would love to work with adolescences with teen parenting, group parent education,” she said.

She is visiting job fairs in Las Cruces and talking to potential employers about her experience, her education and her work ethic.

“They say that you have your first thirty seconds is like when you’re really selling yourself, are you confident, are you giving a good handshake, do you seem personable. I think it’s just an important thing to just seem like you’re…them to give them information and you’re willing to listen and learn,” she said.

Recruiters like Melissa Wells try and find people who are friendly, outgoing and can represent her company well.

“I look for somebody who has talent and can bring a new dynamic, someone with experience in working with customers. I’m very honest in saying that this a very sale aggressive position, but we want somebody who’s interested in being challenged everyday and is really looking to build a career,” said Wells.

Well represents the financial institute, Wells Fargo, one of the many companies in the Las Cruces area still recruiting more employees.

“A lot of times, people don’t really put their true experiences on their resume but it’s an opportunity for them as a recruiter for anybody else to really spark that conversation and learn about their background and what their desires are,” she said.
