LAS CRUCES >> John Bolton, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, told more than 900 people who attended the second day of the sixth annual Domenici Public Policy Conference that the U.S. should present itself more like the world leader it is.

“We are a world power, we ought to act like one,” Bolton said during his presentation the Las Cruces Convention Center.

Bolton’s statement was received with hearty applause from the audience. His comments were part of a presentation he made about America’s role in ongoing events in the Middle East to curb the use of chemical and nuclear weapons.

“If Iran gets nuclear weapons, what do you think the price of oil is going to be?” Bolton asked. His question put into context what he believes the U.S. role in the Middle East should be.
