LAS CRUCES – A celebration of the digitalization of NMSU’s student-run newspapers will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today at New Mexico State University’s Branson Library Gallery on the fourth floor.

NMSU’s student run newspaper, The Round Up, and its predecessor, The New Mexico Collegian, are both important learning platforms for students and sources of readily available material on the history of NMSU and the region, according to a news release from the university.

Published since 1893, NMSU’s newspaper is one of the most highly requested resources in the archives’ collections at the library. In 2009, the Archives and Special Collections staff was no longer able to permit photocopying of the early issues because of the fragility of the newsprint, spawning a fundraising campaign to digitize the newspapers from 1893 to 1999.

Due to community support, NMSU Library issues of The New Mexico Collegian and The Round Up from 1893 to 1999 are now searchable online at

The event is free and open to the public.
