Kevin Boberg, Vice President for Economic Development at NMSU, spoke with College of Business student ambassadors on Wednesday, February 4th, 2015.
Boberg has been with NMSU since 1987.
Shortly after joining NMSU, he was named Associate Dean/Director of the Bureau of Business Research and Services, and held that position until July 2013 when he assumed the role of Vice President for Economic Development.
He also serves as the CEO and a director of the Arrowhead Center, Inc., which serves as the source of University business and economic development efforts.
Dr. Boberg holds bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Administrative Services, and a master’s degree in Industrial Administrative Sciences from Iowa State University. He received his PH.D. in logistics with minors in accounting and economics from Penn State University.
He told the ambassadors that one of the main things he looks for in a potential employee is whether the person is able to think in a dynamic and fluid fashion. The person needs to be adaptive, think and communicate.
He advised the ambassadors to not limit their potential by being intimidated by tasks. He said to break down the task and handle it piece by piece.
When conducting an interview, Boberg says he looks for people who take control of the situation. He encouraged the Ambassadors to ask questions back to interviewers, to listen and to formulate answers.
