Buchanan graduated from the College of Business with a BBA in Finance and Real Estate. His extensive experience in the banking industry has taken him to many different places around the country. He returned to Las Cruces, and is very happy to be back. He feels very strongly about the positive impact an organization such as a bank can have on the community in which it resides.

As a student, Buchanan never saw himself getting into the banking industry. He describes it as an industry that people frequently fall into by accident. Banking, however, has more than what meets the eye, and has more opportunities than one would think. Since the types of jobs available in the banking field are so diverse, Buchanan encouraged students of all different business majors to consider a career in banking.

Buchanan feels very strongly about “knowing who you are, and knowing your own personal style.” He encouraged the ambassadors to try out different fields to find a career that they felt best suited them — and to be flexible and not assume too much about what they may or may not like in a career.

He advised students to take full advantage of the vast resources offered by NMSU for job seeking such as those provided by NMSU’s Career Services.
