Will Burke, owner of Burke Insurance Group, LLC in Las Cruces spoke to the College of Business Ambassadors Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in the Business Complex.
Burke received his high school degree from New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell before receiving his BSBA and MBA from the University of Denver.
Burke has extensive experience in insuring and bonding commercial contractors throughout New Mexico and West Texas since founding Burke Insurance Group in 1980. Prior to the surety bonds and insurance business Burke served as an auditor for Jewel Food Cos. in Chicago, a brief stint providing financial analysis for an oil company in Denver until the company was sold.
Burke got into the insurance business at the age of 28 for Connecticut General Life Insurance as a brokerage consultant. Soon afterwards, he founded Burke Insurance Group and has stayed true to its roots as a boutique insurance agency serving clients doing revenue upwards of $100 million.
Burke Insurance Group, LLC, has persevered, having received the Independent Insurance Agencies Best Practices award for 12 consecutive years and is the only agency in New Mexico and West Texas to accomplish this feat.
Burke pointed out to the ambassador students that good writing skills are imperative for business students coming out of school to write business letters and proposals in the work place as well as communicating effectively. In addition he shared with the students the success of two individuals who defined their success as “I work five to 10 percent harder than the person next to me” and “I say what I’m going to do and I show up.”
Burke added it’s important in business to be disciplined in your actions.
