New Mexico State University students place in information technology conference

Five New Mexico State University students recently received awards at the 2003 Region 3 Student Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Conference at Northwestern State University.

Dustin Whitener, from Texico, N.M., placed second in the “Database Design and Implementation” category and third place in the “Web Design” category.

Felipe Scobell, of El Paso, and Jeremy McBurney, of Leavenworth, Kan., placed second in “Web Design.”

Celine Rimbert, of Albuquerque, and Robert Vickrey, of Carlsbad, N.M., placed fourth in the “Database Design and Implementation” category.

Whitener, Scobell, McBurney, Rimbert and Vickrey are all seniors majoring in business computer systems at NMSU.

A total of 117 students from 16 universities and colleges in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana attended the 2003 Region 3 Student AITP Conference. Workshops for students covered information technology and professional development topics.

NMSU’s chapter was created three and a half years ago and now has 24 members.
