New Mexico State University will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, to celebrate the opening of the Pete V. Domenici Archives as part of the Political Papers Archive at the University Library. The newly renovated space houses his collection, which spans 3,000-linear feet.
The ceremony will take place in the first floor lobby of Branson Library and will feature remarks from dean of the library, Elizabeth Titus, department head of archives and special collections, Larry Creider, NMSU President Garrey Carruthers and former U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici.
The library staff will host tours of the archives following the ceremony. The collection includes unique artifacts and memorabilia from Sen. Domenici’s extensive career in New Mexico. A photo exhibit will also highlight the senator’s work in Washington, D.C.
The collection will also include items that emphasize the senator’s career in public service, artifacts and gifts that highlight New Mexico’s history and diverse constituencies and items related to Sen. Domenici’s years of service as the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
