CHATHAM, ON, Sept. 24 /CNW/ – Union Gas President Julie Dill has been named 2010 Energy Leader of the Year by the Ontario Energy Association (OEA). The award, which was presented this week during the 2010 OEA Annual Conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario, recognizes leaders of exceptional vision, integrity and accomplishment.

“I am truly honoured and humbled to be named Energy Leader of the Year,” said Dill. “Union Gas and our parent company Spectra Energy strive to be the supplier of choice for our customers and the advisor of choice on policy and regulation for governments and regulators. Our goal is to ensure a safe, reliable and efficient energy infrastructure that will address the need to reduce the carbon-intensity of our economy while keeping pace with our growing energy needs for the future. Clean, reliable natural gas has an important role to play in achieving that goal.”

Dill, the first woman to receive this honour, was presented with the award before an audience of representatives from Ontario’s energy industry, including Ontario Minister of Energy, Brad Duguid.

“In just a little over three years, Julie has made a tremendous impact on the province of Ontario, on Union Gas and on Spectra Energy’s reputation in the province,” said Greg Ebel, president and chief executive officer, Spectra Energy Corp. “She has demonstrated great leadership on the policy front, on the regulatory front, with employees and with all stakeholders.”

“Julie Dill is an exceptional industry leader, whose deep-rooted values and strength of character is renowned among her peers and staff, and whose dedication to her work and employees is exemplary,” said Elise Herzig, Ontario Energy Association president and chief executive officer. “Her commitment to improving the energy sector is acknowledged and appreciated by her colleagues and peers throughout the industry.”
