Brig. Gen. Gwen Bingham, commanding general of White Sands Missile Range, will join the speakers scheduled to appear at the 2013 Domenici Public Policy Conference. The conference takes place Sept. 18 and 19 at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 E. University Ave.
Bingham will discuss how the test and evaluation command is managing resources and preserving the environment to sustain operations and accomplish the mission amid new threats, fiscal challenges and technologies. Bingham will address the conference during the 10 a.m. session Sept. 19, the second day of the event.
Joshua Cooper Ramo, originally scheduled to speak at that time, will give his presentation about U.S.-China relations at 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 18. Doors open at 7 a.m. that day and the program begins with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m.
The cost to attend the two-day event is $50. Any university student may attend for free courtesy of Western Commerce Bank, sponsor of the 2013 Domenici Student Experience. Registration and more information, including an updated agenda, are available at domenici.nmsu.edu.
Other speakers at the conference will include former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, former Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, retired U.S. Sen. Bill Frist, Gov. Susana Martinez and NMSU’s own Lowell Catlett, dean of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.
This year, the conference will focus on the future of American energy, and will also feature discussions on U.S. foreign policy in China and the Middle East and health care reform.
Now in its sixth year hosting the conference, the Domenici Institute for Public Policy is named after New Mexico’s longest-serving U.S. senator, Pete V. Domenici. Every year, the conference brings together some of the country’s top experts to discuss a variety of important issues facing the nation. The Domenici Institute is housed on the campus of NMSU.
