Francisco Rivera-Batiz was presented with the 2010 ASHE Academic Achievement Award during the ASHE business meeting in Atlanta Georgia on January 3, 2010. Dr. Rivera-Batiz is a Professor of Economics and Education, and an Affiliate Professor of International and Public Affairs, at Columbia University. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Rivera-Batiz has held teaching or research appointments at various universities, including the University of Chicago, the University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University, and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He is the author or co-author of five books and over 70 articles and monographs in the areas of international economics, development studies, and labor economics. His publications have appeared in leading journals, including the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the International Economic Review, the Journal of Development Economics, the Journal of Human Resources, and others.
This biennial Award was designed to reward ASHE members who have made a vast array of academic accomplishments and contributions throughout their careers to the economics discipline and other related areas. Previous recipients of this Award are Dr. Ronald Oaxaca and Dr. Refugio Rochin.
