448 is Sustainability-Focused Class @ NMSUBoje's SPIRAL SMALL BUSINESS SUCCESS

Sustainability-Focused Course at NMSUThis is a Sustainability-Focused Course You can see how the wonderful Student projects in Mgt 448/548 helped bring about a Spiral of Success for NMSU in Sustainability by readings some history.

Small LeafSustainability-focused courses concentrate on the concept of sustainability, including its socio-cultural, economic, and environmental dimensions, or examine an issue or topic using sustainability as a lens. To be considered sustainability-focused, the course should include three or more of the sustainability educational objectives listed below, and put the leaf above in your course materials.Students from this class were consultants on the Business Plan that established the structure and strategy of the Sustainability Council, developed marketing for Bicycle Friendly University, and were facilitors for the 2013 taskforce initiatives on climate change.

Policy Clarification: for your Exams: Your answer will only count if you have it in your NOTEBOOK, in verbatim field notes from interviews or transcribed form taped answers to questions. During group work on Exams, only those answers from student's notebooks will count towards their grade. The whole point of taking fieldnotes is to do the actual field research for the SEAM analysis. The point of taking EXAMS is to prepare you for writing the report which is based on actual verbatim notes - D Boje Oct. 1st, 2012.

The purpose of what follows is to give some overview of how to consult using double-spiral-antenarrative approach.

An antenarrative is a 'bet on the future' and a way of understanding processes of storytelling 'before' a linear-narrative is created. Entrepreneurs and small businesses are not linear, and linear planning in linear narratives called business plans just end up collecting dust on the shelf. Consider the path you own life has followed. You arrived her at NMSU, in this class, at this moment. Looking back, did you arrive in a linear path, walking in a straight line, from your first steps as an infant to walking into this room? Or, was your path twisting, fire with potholes, many sudden curves, and lots of seredipity. Seredipity is those chance unplaned, spontaneous events that happen by accident or coincidence, and bring you some beneficial opportunities. The path of a small business is rarely a straight line. Businesses develop or fall in spirals.

Western linear-consulting models do not address spiral processes.

The second most popular myth about a small business is that it just repeats the same things day in and day out. This is the myth of the business cycle models of small business. Imagine a cycle of repeated phases where you just come back to where you started from? Let's move it up a notch. Each time you complete a cycle, move it up a notch, and improve what you are doing. You have moved from cycle of repetition to the spiral of change.

How does this work in action? Watch your clients linear and cyclic activities. Take notes, and now notice how the path is curvy, twisting, the path does not just repeat from one season or year to the next. Notice that there are changes going on in the business processes. If you can notice the changes, you can become a Consultant. Otherwise, all you are doing is generating business plans to put on that dusty shelf.

To move from a line or cycle way of doing business to a Spiral of Success, implement three D-P-I-E cycles, building one on the next, to get a Spiral to materialize in the procsses, structures, strategies, marketing, and revenue positions of the business.

How to create Double Spirals for your final Report It is not a simple spiral line, there are fractal events that repeat in the spiral itself, in its pathway, and your job is to facilitate the production of the spiral, its formation. Your SEAM tools help in that.

This is a Spiral of expanding potentiality with each D-P-I-E uplift cycles until the spiral-upsurge loops have their own momentum and agency.

3 Cycles of D-P-I-E become Spiral

Figure 0 - The Three D-P-I-E cycles, each one moves up a notch, to form an Upsurge Spiral.

D-P-I-E stands for Diagnosis, Project, Implementation, and Evaluation.

D- diagnosis the linear and cyclical repetitions - what is blocking momentum? what is blocking energy? Don't talk, don't ask questions. Just listen, watch, observe what is going on. Diagnosis is observation, and recording. It unleashes the Observer Effect, a quantum potentiality wave. Waves have space-vibration and time-vibration (space-vibe & time-vibe, is the abbreviation). Try to the best of your ability to put your categories, class lessons, prejudices, and ego aside. Experience the space- and time-vibes. Focus on the process, then not focus, and continue to alternate focus and non-fucus. In this way you create an experience of quantum spacetime vibes. Observing is focusing on something, and non-focus is just hanging out stop thinking about what you are doing. Letting go, to really notice by non-focusing.

P - project is planned in cooperation with the client to bring about upsurge in momentum and energy, notch up to next orbit. Because we suggest a spiral structure of space-time vibes of momentum and energy. In a spiral spacetime scheme the client is passing out of linear-conditioning into the repeated cycle of sameness, and finally by D-P-I-E uplift, into a spiral upsurge of performance outcomes. The project is an ingression of new project, new tools, and new strategy (see 3 Axes of SEAM in your textbook).

I - implement - taking action with the client that develops the spiral path of momentum and energy.

E - evaluate - have you moved beyond linear-cyclic illusion to develop three projects, that build (1) momentum across space-vibes and (II) energy into time-vibes.

By developing three D-P-I-E cycles during this semester, you will help your client move out of cycle of repetition and out of linear-stuckness, into Spiral Upsurge. This is the Spiral view of time, where everything flows into the next D-P-I-E cycle. It is a time spiral, with uplift along the timescape (timescape means all those alternative times, beyond linear time, beyond clock-time, such as relativity time, nature-time, meditation time, time in relationships, time doing what one loves doing, the timing of a strategy, etc.). And it is a space spiral with momentum (movement through places in a field called market or innovation, or landscape, etc.). Landscape and timescape opens you up to nonlinear observation, to the Observer Effect you as a consultant have on the spiral processes. As you observe spiral you bring about possibilities outside the confines of linear-cyclic repetition of sameness. To see Spiral, to observe Spiral, requires skills in looking behind the linear.

It is important to get specifice about how a Spiral gets Implemented. Instead of simple line drawing, zoom in so you can see the details of your D-P-I-E

How to create Double Spirals for your final Report

It is a matter of identifying spiralness potential through diagnosis, and naming that potential, then helping to implement three projects that make it so by end of this semester

Table – 11 D’s of Quantum Storytelling

Q to ask your client (and to record on tape or film)

1. What is the directionality of the business processes; to what future are they headed?

2. What is the datability of the business process developments?

3. What is the duration of various business processes?

4. What is the disclosability of the future business processes revealed to you?

5. What is the destining of the processes unfolding in ways you can foretell? Follow up, in fore-caring, fore-structuring, fore-having, fore-conceiving.

6. What is the deployment of business processes, in-order-to, for-the-sake-of?

7. What is the dwelling, in-place in the world of business

8. What is the de-severance (de-distancing) of space-time-mattering?

9. What are the drafts, updraft, and downdraft, into tighter (down) orbits, or into more open outer orbits (up), and the turning points from one draft to another?

10. What is the dispersion of processes, too diverse, or consolidating them?

11. What is the detaching from being drawn into ‘they-ness,’ they-relations, they-self and finding a path of ownmost authentic potentiality-for-Being-a-whole-Self?
