Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business

The Department of Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business offers a variety of degrees. At the undergraduate level, we offer bachelors of business administration in economics and in international business, and a bachelor of arts in economics. We also offer minors in economics and international business.

At the graduate level, we offer a master of science in applied statistics. In conjunction with the Department of Agricultural Economics, we offer a master of arts in economics and a doctor of economic development.

This program is especially suitable for students who find economics interesting and who intend, perhaps without additional formal education beyond a bachelor's degree, to take jobs in business or government. This degree prepares you for a wide variety of jobs, including those leading eventually to positions of executive responsibility. It is also appropriate for those who may choose to seek a Master of Business Administration degree after graduation.

Businesses and government agencies need employees who are knowledgeable about foreign trade, balance of payments, management, finance and global marketing. Business transactions frequently involve a payer in one nation and a payee in another. Investment and lending are also international in character.

You can “declare” a minor while pursuing your degree (your major). A minor can add versatility to your knowledge, skills and abilities. Some students prepare for their intended career with their major while pursuing personal interests with a minor. Other students pursue their major and declare a minor to specialize in a subject and make themselves more attractive to employers.
