Raquel Bone, ’91, ‘93
Raquel Bone (’91, ’ 93) earned her bachelor’s degrees in business administration and finance, with a minor in Spanish, along with an MBA from NMSU. She has built a 25-year career in financial services, holding leadership positions at JPMorgan Chase and now serving as market managing director for PNC Bank’s Institutional Asset Management division in California. Beyond her professional success, Bone has remained a steadfast supporter of NMSU, endowing a business scholarship, funding Bloomberg Terminals, supporting NMSU’s Black Programs, and helping the PRIDE of New Mexico marching band purchase new uniforms.
“Receiving the Hall of Fame award is truly humbling,” Bone said. “It is a testament to the valuable lessons I’ve learned and the support I received along my journey. I feel grateful to be recognized, and I hope to honor this award by continuing to contribute positively to my community and the students of NMSU.”
Bone also reflected on her career path and the role NMSU played. “I’ve had the privilege of working for the largest financial institution in the country on projects impacting marginalized communities, with incredibly bright and giving individuals who helped me grow both professionally and personally. Each success I’ve experienced reflects the collaborative efforts of my family, mentors, colleagues and friends who believed in me along the way. NMSU’s College of Business gave me a strong foundation and access to opportunities like co-op employment with Fortune 500 companies, which opened doors I could never have imagined.”
Roy King, ‘78
Roy King (’78) built his 40-year career in the oil and gas industry, primarily with Royal Dutch Shell. His leadership roles spanned international finance, mergers and acquisitions, and global business development, where he oversaw projects that added billions to Shell’s bottom line and guided large-scale deals in Europe, Africa and North America. After retiring, he has continued to consult in business development and remains active in supporting NMSU through the Business Advisory Council and his involvement with Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.
“Recognition is always a good thing,” King said. “The NMSU College of Business has numerous accomplished graduates, and I am honored to be considered in such good company. My time at NMSU gave me a strong education, but also leadership opportunities through Phi Kappa Tau and athletics, which prepared me for a very rewarding career.”
Reflecting on his time at NMSU, King added, “The College of Business provided a solid foundation, not just academically but also through leadership and extracurricular opportunities. The skills, relationships and experiences I gained as an Aggie were instrumental in navigating complex international projects and building a career that has spanned decades. I am grateful for the guidance and network that NMSU fostered – it truly made a difference in my professional journey.”
GECU Federal Credit Union

This includes the spring Student Professional Development Seminar, which GECU will sponsor through 2029.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this distinguished award from the NMSU College of Business,” said Crystal Long, president and CEO of GECU. “This recognition reflects our shared mission of education and the belief that it has the power to transform students' lives positively. We are deeply grateful to NMSU for the opportunity to contribute, and we look forward to continuing to work together to provide opportunities for our future leaders.”

She’s held various senior leadership roles within her 28-year career at New Mexico Mutual, the state’s largest workers’ compensation insurance provider, and works to advance the company’s legacy of innovation and providing service excellence for policyholders, workers and agency partners.
“I’m very proud to be chosen to receive this award and join the successful group of NMSU College of Business Hall of Fame awardees,” Mixon said. “The College of Business provided me with the building blocks to have a successful future by creating the right learning experiences and opportunities to grow. NMSU is a perfect example of a dynamic institution that invests in their student’s continuous growth and learning to help benefit the state of New Mexico. I took this with me throughout my career as it was important to me to understand the needs of our state and how I could make an impact. Now, I work with other business leaders to help make New Mexico thrive.”
The Los Alamos native was recognized in 2019 as Woman of Influence by Albuquerque Business First. Joe Christian, ‘83
Joe Christian, president and CEO of Nusenda Credit Union, was the first in his family to attend college. He shared that NMSU transformed his life after earning a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance in 1983. He added that his success, along with this recognition, is a testament to his nearly 40-year career at Nusenda.
“NMSU’s educational foundation allowed me to influence Nusenda Credit Union’s exponential growth and collaborate with other technology focused companies in the early days of the scramble to deliver financial services and advice via the internet,” he said. “The concepts taught in the MBA program at the College of Business helped me impact the strategic direction of the credit union and inspire the incorporation of modern thought around leadership, project management, employee development and the integration of technological innovation at the employee and consumer level.”
In addition, Christian is a Business Advisory Council Member and other boards across New Mexico. He’s been personally recognized with a leadership award by the Albuquerque Journal in 2019 and 2022, and was also named as one of the 100 nationally recognized influencers in finance by the Business Journals.
“The professors at the College of Business genuinely love what they are doing and are creating an educational experience for students that will provide many opportunities for success,” he said. “I will continue doing what I can to advise the COB and individual students to impart the knowledge I have gained during my career. This is one of the best parts of my role as President and CEO of Nusenda Credit Union.”

Brian S. Colón, '98
Brian S. Colón graduated from NMSU’s College of Business in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance degree, and then went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree at the University of New Mexico along with becoming a certified fraud examiner. This includes a fellowship with Hunt Institute, the Corazón de la Cultura Award from NM Hispanic Heritage, the Person of the Year from NM Holocaust Museum, and more. Colón has over 30 years of committed volunteer work, fundraising in the non-profit sector, and public service.
“On this 25th anniversary of my graduation and as the first in my family to go to college, I never could have dreamt of being worthy of this honor (especially when I consider past recipients),” Colón shared. “That said, I am humbled to receive the award and hope it is an example to others who struggle with few resources and support in college. It literally took me 10 years to finish my degree before attending law school. Hopefully, this award is a sign that every single person and organization who invested their time and treasure in me throughout my journey made a good investment. I couldn’t have done it without them, and this is yet one more ‘payment’ on the debt of gratitude I owe them all. I will never repay my debt fully, but I will die trying with my life of service to others.”
