Episode 09

This research investigates whether economic liberalization promotes improved government accountability by analyzing global data from 1900 to 2023. Their findings suggest that market-oriented reforms enhance governance through three primary channels: promoting media independence, strengthening civil society participation, and diversifying elite consultation.

The study was coauthored by Dr. Veeshan Rayamajhee, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business. The paper, entitled "Does economic liberalization increase government accountability?" was published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization in 2025.
