Marketing Department

Welcome to the Marketing Department in the College of Business at NMSU.  Our program of study is designed to provide an excellent and well-rounded marketing degree, offered on-campus as well as online as a degree-completion program.

Our Mission: The purpose of the Marketing major is to provide students with an understanding of the marketing process and enable them to develop skills in product planning, distribution, pricing, promotion, and related marketing activities. Building on a broad-based marketing core curriculum.

The list of marketing learning opportunities to study within the Marketing Department:

Advertising is a concentration offered within the Marketing major that will equip you with core skills needed in advertising, and in developing and managing advertising campaigns. Additional focus is placed on developing television and radio commercials, and magazine, newspaper, and social media ads, as well as outdoor advertising.

PGA Golf Management is a concentration offered within the Marketing major that is sanctioned by the Professional Golfer’s Association of America.  This is a 4 1/2 year program leading to a BBA with a major in Marketing and a concentration in PGA Golf Management.  In addition to the required Marketing curriculum, students will complete additional golf-industry specific classes and complete 16 months of on-the-job training through paid internships.

Professional Selling is a concentration offered within the Marketing major that will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to be consultative sellers. It develops a blend of hard and soft skills that are necessary to be successful in this very analytical discipline. It fosters professional selling skills and techniques, the knowledge necessary to properly administer a sales force, and the ability to start an entrepreneurial path on how to build, manage, and maintain a consultative sales force.

Strategic Management is a concentration offered within the Marketing major that will prepare you to help implement a company’s mission through focused decisions, plans, and processes.  These efforts are used to adjust the product, price, promotion, place, packaging, positioning, and people, in order to maximize the effectiveness and success of marketing activities and programs.

Our 100% online undergraduate Marketing degree emphasizes tools and concepts which are used to gain insight and understanding of customer needs and markets. Graduates from this program will learn how to use their marketing knowledge to design and deliver unique products, services, and ideas which directly respond to the unique needs of an identified customer market.

Ph.D. Program - Marketing

The faculty of the Ph.D. Program in Business Administration is committed to training researchers and educators who will shape marketing scholarship, practice, and pedagogy. The program emphasizes preparing candidates to understand the complexities of modern business while they develop a specialized area of expertise in marketing.

Undergraduate Minor(s)

You can “declare” a minor while pursuing your degree (your major). A minor can add versatility to your knowledge, skills and abilities. Some students prepare for their intended career with their major while pursuing personal interests with a minor. Other students pursue their major and declare a minor to specialize in a subject and make themselves more attractive to employers.
